What is a Gulet ?
A Gulet
is a wooden motor
sailing vessel, the modern version of the ancient cargo bearing craft
which used to trade along the south west coast of Turkey. The original
working design has evolved into a cruising vessel of a high standard
and quality and equipped with the latest navigation technology such as
GPS, GPRS, chart-plotter, radar, etc. to meet the expectations of
modern yachtsmen. Nowadays, Gulets over 30-35 meters are built by hand
in the shipyards of Bodrum for charters and private purposes. Today,
some of the deluxe super gulets even have air conditioned accommodation
for up to eighteen guests in self-contained double cabins. Cabins in
the majority of gulets are for two with double, not twin, beds. Each
has a private shower, wash basin and WC, and the convenience of ample
storage space for your belongings. The cabins, walkways and deck are
spacious and efficiently designed for passengers' comfort and safety.
The interior design and style is generally of simple, clean, and
perfect for the Mediterranean climate and being on the sea. In general,
gulets vary in length between 14 and 35 meters (52- 110 feet) hence
varying passenger capacity and number of crew. In many ways a Gulet is
like a full service hotel although every room has a sea view and the
scenery is constantly changing!
